Leaving Hot Spring, you will travel through Wind Cave National Park and Custer State Park on your way to Needles Highway. Stop at the pullover for some pictures. Use caution as you approach the tunnels (there are two) along Needles Highway. They are single lane tunnels. Just before you exit Custer State Park, you will see Black Elk Peak, the highest elevation (7,242) in South Dakota. Next you will enter Black Hills National Forest and head to Custer. From Custer, you’ll go to Pringle, known as the Elk Capital of South Dakota. Once again you’ll ride through Wind Cave National Park as you head back to Hot Spring SD. Stop at the Evans Plunge and enjoy a refreshing swim in the natural mineral springs that are 87 degrees year round.
